Academic Approach

In aspiring to offer a handcrafted education in a digital age, we aim to prepare each student with the academic skills and habits of thought that will serve them personally and as citizens.

TEACHING AND LEARNING

  • Paideia

The unique learning and teaching reform model known as Paideia informs everything we do at MVP. It is the cornerstone that sets the MVP experience apart. Paideia is a Greek word that means “training of the physical and mental faculties in such a way as to produce a broad, enlightened, mature outlook, harmoniously combined with maximum cultural development.” (Merriam Webster 2021).

  • National Certificate for STEM Teaching

    STEM

The National Certificate for STEM Excellence (NCSE) recognizes individual school campuses for their commitment to – and growth in – teachers’ implementation of 21st Century and STEM strategies. Evolving from STEM professional development and curriculum created at Rice University, NISE STEM certificates integrate the most recent research and best practices in STEM, 21st Century Learning and professional development.

  • AP/Pre-AP

AP gives students the chance to tackle college-level work while they're still in high school—whether they're learning online or in the classroom. Scoring a 3 or better on AP Exams allows students to earn college credit and placement.

Moreno Valley Preparatory is an AP Honor Roll Platinum School. Our students’ PSAT scores surpass global, national and state averages.

  • Senior Capstone

The Capstone Project is a hallmark of the MVP experience. It provides a way for students to learn through a self-determined, focused project bringing together multiple academic disciplines. It is a sustained investigation that happens in phases: Phase 1 - Proposal, Phase 2 - The Work, Phase 3 - the Presentation, Phase 4 - Reflection. Students are provided feedback from teachers and personally selected mentors throughout the process.

  • The Arts

The Arts are essential in education, enhancing creativity, critical thinking, and emotional intelligence. Participation in visual arts, music, dance, or theater allows students to express themselves and consider diverse perspectives. Including The Arts in the curriculum prepares students for academic success and a fulfilling life, fostering innovative individuals through artistic exploration.

  • Learning Outdoors

At MVP, the breathtaking natural landscape surrounding our school is an integral part of our educational approach. Our curriculum is designed to leverage the stunning mountains and outdoors, creating unique opportunities for hands-on learning and exploration. Students engage in outdoor science labs, environmental studies, and team-building activities set against the majestic backdrop of nature. This interactive learning fosters a deeper understanding of the environment while encouraging physical fitness and a sense of community. By integrating the beauty of our local landscape into daily learning, we inspire students to appreciate and protect the world around them.

  • Electives

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
