Due to Governor Lujan Grisham’s order requiring all New Mexico schools to either delay opening until September 8, (and make up those missed days) OR start remotely, Moreno Valley High School in partnership with Cimarron Municipal Schools will begin school under a Remote Learning Model.
As noted on our school and district calendar, the first day of school will be August 12, and we will bring students on-site in small groups to do academic testing, relationship building, online platform training, check out books and chromebooks, and other such beginning of school activities. Therefore, not ALL students will begin 8/12, but some will start that day.
When on-site, these small groups of students and teachers will maintain social distance and mask requirements. Students and parents will be informed of their child’s dates and times to be on-site.
Bus transportation will be provided just as it is during a regular school year. Meal programs will continue to be served whether students are on site or remote. Ancillary services for special education students will continue according to the student’s IEP, and may take place through teletherapy and/or in person at school.
The instructional day will be from 9:00-3:00 Tuesday-Friday, as identified in our re-entry plan. Intervention support is available to students from 3:00-4:00 Tuesday-Friday (which will be teachers’ set office hours under this remote model).
One Monday per month, in a small group (5 students per teacher) on site, students will have an opportunity to participate in academic enrichment to support the high rigor of our educational programming for each student.
Athletics will continue to follow the athletic calendar (which begins in September) and the NMAA guidelines. We will be working diligently on the logistics and will provide detailed information on the website ( http://mvhsnm.org ) as soon as reasonably possible. This plan is fluid and will change in accordance with the health situation and orders or directives from the Governor, Department of Health, and the NM Public Education Department.
Thank you for your flexibility, support, and understanding! We look forward to meeting with students in August! Please reach out in the interim with any questions or concerns to me.
