12 MVHS students traveled to Portales, NM to attend the Eastern New Mexico University’s High School Drama Festival, February 21-24, 2018.  Although this is the 63rd year the festival has been around, it is MVHS’ first year to participate. Students had the opportunity to perform a one act play, watch other school’s one acts, participate in workshops by college professors, and watch ENMU’s production of Antigone.  MVHS presented selections from Bertolt Brecht’s, Fear and Misery in the Third Reich, receiving Best Production Design.  Seniors Caleb Talbot and Sara Turnmire have been offered scholarships to ENMU should they choose to attend there majoring or minoring in the Theatre/Film program.

Student Reactions:

Having film workshop options at the ENMU DramaFest was awesome. Seeing their equipment and talking to the current film majors was a very nice experience. I enjoyed that the theatre program and film program are combined. – Haleigh Campbell

Being at the ENMU Dramafest brought me a completely new understanding of theatre and all the components that go along with it. It was a very fun and enlightening experience that I’m so glad to have been a part of. – Genneveve Alarid

This festival was great. My favorite part was learning from wonderful teachers during workshops. They sparked a passion in me, and I now want to explore my interest in sketch writing. I am very appreciative to be able to participate in the ENMU DramaFest this year and I hope it continues in the next. – Abigail Orndorff
